Drury's Special Reserve Review

Country: Brazil
Brand: Drury’s Special Reserve
Type: Blended Whisky
Age: NAS
Alcohol: 39%

Colour: Deep Copper (Caramel is added for colouring)

Nose: A little bit of Smoke and Leather right at the beginning that suggests some Islay notes. Could that be true? Actually I was quite surprised. Other than that basically Oak, young Alcohol and maybe a bit of dried fruit (Plums). Nothing to get excited about but certainly better than I expected.

Taste: Unpleasant delivery with something not unlike fuel for oil lamps. After that some sharp Spice and raw Oak.

Finish: Well, actually there isn’t any. Slightly bitter aftertaste.

Rating: 55

Nose: 18 – Taste: 12 – Finish: 11 – Overall: -13

General Remarks. This Blended Whisky is made in Brazil by Campari. It contains imported Malt and Grain Whisky from Scotland to which local distilled alcohol and water are added.

I added a few drops of water but it really does not make any difference.

Drinking Experience Neat: Unpleasant

Conclusion: I was really positively surprised by the nose. Unfortunately the taste is quite unpleasant and the finish is hard to detect. I bought a miniature bottle but the normal bottle is for sale over here at around USD 11,00. So although it’s very cheap, this is not my cup of whisky!

Hey,

I totally agree! What other Brazilian whiskies have you tried?

Hi Robert,

Thanks for commenting. The others I have tried are Old Eight, Passport and Teacher's. You can find the Tasting Notes on the site. They have one thing in common though. They don't taste good!'Cheers!

As a Brazilian, I couldn't agree more.

Hi Luiz, thanks for commenting! Yep, it would be nice to have a good local Whisky here in Brazil but I'm afraid we're still far away from that!
Bom Final de Semana!
