Glenandrew 10 Years Review

Country: Scotland
Region: Highland
Brand: Glenandrew
Type: Single Malt Whisky
Age: 10 Years
ABV: 40 %
Date: 17/01/2014

Colour: Golden Sunlight. Possibly contains E-150.

Nose: Not too much going on here I'm afraid. Lots of young Oak, Alcohol and Malt. I also find Margarine, light Varnish, Toffee and light Floral Tones, maybe Heather. It reminds me a bit of some of the West-European Whiskies I have tasted recently.

Palate: Quite Thin with Barley, slightly Bitter Oak, Alcohol, Toffee, Margarine, light Honey, Pepper and a sprinkle of Salt.

Finish: Middle-Long and slightly Sharp with Toasted Grain, Margarine, Toffee, Oak and Pepper.

With Water this Single Malt simply becomes too Thin.

Rating: 72

Nose: 18 - Taste: 18 - Finish: 18 - Overall: 18

Can the Pheasant lead us to the Distillery?

General Remarks: The Glenandrew is a Highland Single Malt bottled by/for the Highlands and Islands Scotch Whisky Co.Ltd. It's a well kept secret where this Single Malt is distilled. Personally I found it somewhat similar to the Glen Moray 12 Years. It might well hail from the Elgin/Moray region as pheasants are being hunted there. And a Pheasant is an important feature of the Glenandrew label. And in Elgin there is an amateur football club by the name of Golden Pheasant FC. But all this could just as well be mere coincidental of course and I might be  completely off target. Still, it's fun to play detective once in a while! If anybody knows where the Glenandrew is distilled, please be so kind to leave a comment in the Comments sector. Thanks! The Glenandrew 10 Years is usually priced at around 40 US Dollars.

Drinking Experience Neat: Below Average.

Conclusion: I didn't find any real off-note in the Glenandrew 10 Years but if all Single Malts would taste like this I would be happy to sip my JW Black on the Rocks for ever after. A bit of Malt, Toffee, Margarine and Spice is basically what you get with this Glenandrew. And that's not enough as far as I'm concerned!
