Aberlour 10 Years Review

Country: Scotland
Brand: Aberlour
Type: Single Malt Whisky
Region: Speyside
Age: 10 Years
Alcohol: 40%

Colour: Amber/Gold.

Nose: Pleasant. Creamy Malt, Vanilla, Apple Pie, Sherry, Butterscotch, Nuts, Dried Fruits, Cinnamon. Bit of Oak after a couple of minutes.

Taste:  Sherry, Spicy (Cinnamon, Nutmeg), a bit of Mint perhaps. Rather disappointing after the delicate nose.

Finish:  Short, Clean. Dry. Nutty.

Rating: 81

Nose: 22 – Taste: 20 – Finish: 19 – Overall: 20

General Remarks: I believe it’s the best selling Single Malt in France. It’s certainly not too expensive, which might explain part of this popularity. I added a couple of drops of water but that just watered everything down. Better drink this one neat.

Drinking Experience Neat: Good but not really exciting

Conclusion: Once again, the nose promises more than the Malt actually delivers on the palate. The finish is clean but short. It’s certainly not a bad whisky but I can’t really get excited about this.

Me, once again in english ;-)

I have tasted and posted a few different Versions of the 10 yo OB in my blog (bottling years 1988, 1990, 1995 and 2009). And I was very impressed, how different they smelled and tasted.
In the version of 2009 (could be the version you have tasted here)the Nose also was much more to my liking than the taste.
In the older versions (especially from 1990 and 1988) the taste impresses much more. These versions are easily to find in Whiskyauctions for little money. Often they don´t cost much more than the recent bottlings while giving a lot more pleasure.

Marcus (puh, this comment was hard to write, but I hope I am getting better comment by comment)

Hi Marcus,

You did great. Don't worry about that. And practice makes the Malt Meister! Thanks for your advice. The problem is that the Whisky Auctions don't ship to Brazil as well. With respect to the Auchentoshan, I'm sure it was a recent bottling although I'm not quite sure which one it was.
Cheers
Jan
