Ben Nevis 10 Years Review

Country: Scotland
Brand: Ben Nevis
Type: Single Malt Whisky
Region: Highlands
Age: 10 Years
Alcohol: 46%

Colour: Golden Brown

Nose: Full nose with Cereals, Sherry and Nuts. Very nice Fruit with notes of Peach and Orange Marmalade. There is a bit of Sulphur lurking at the back most likely from the Sherry casks used for finishing. This was less present during the second tasting so it’s advised to give this Single Malt some air.

Taste:  The delivery is very strong thanks to the bottling at 46% with lots of Oak and Spices ,mainly Cinnamon. Vanilla there as well.

Finish:  Hot and Dry but on the short side turning slightly bitter towards the end
Rating: 83

Nose: 22 – Taste: 20,5 – Finish: 20 – Overall: 20,5

General Remarks:
I added a few drops of water. The nose gains some Peat and other Floral tones and the palate is rewarded with creamy Malt and Toffee. My advice is to nose this Single Malt neat but to add a bit of water before nosing it again as well as tasting it.

Drinking Experience Neat: Good

Conclusion: Quite an interesting nose with really nice Fruit. A little water helps this Single Malt on the palate as the 46% together with the heavy Oak and Spices are a bit too strong for my liking. This Ben Nevis is quite comparable to the Glenfarclas but in the end I like the latter just a wee bit more.
